This study presents the result of investigations of heavy metals (Cu, Cd) and metalloids (As) in the liver, skin and muscles of Chondrostoma nasus (Linnaeus, 1758), as well as in waters and sediments of the Danube River (Kudelin village, Vidin region), Bulgaria. The highest levels of Cu (23.05 ± 16.14 mg.kg-1), Cd (0.08 ± 0.04 mg.kg-1) and As (9.24 ± 4.79 mg.kg-1) was found in samples of liver. The content of the studied elements decreased in the following order: liver>skin>muscle. The highest values for As content (0.07 ± 0.05 mg.l-1) were found in surface waters, while the highest values for Cu content (204.09 ± 121.05 mg.kg-1) were found in sediments. The circulation of the studied elements in the freshwater ecosystem was investigated. The excesses in the values of the obtained results were analyzed against regulated national and international standards.

Based on 53 vertical samples collected in May, August and October 2019 in the waters of the Romanian Black Sea shelf, we assessed the seasonal dynamic of abundances and diversity of zooplankton within the surface and certain depths layers of the pelagic system. Along with the control exerted on the primary production as main grazers, zooplankton species constitute a significant part of most commercially exploited pelagic fish diet (e.g. anchovy, sprat, horse mackerel juveniles). As result of increased global and regional climatic variability, we detected a seasonal shift in the occurrence of key copepod species as well as significant fluctuations in abundances of total fodder zooplankton. In May 2019, the sudden warming of water column led to proliferation of Noctiluca scintillans and therefore, to reduction of fodder zooplankton stocks. With the changing of thermal regime, a rapid shift of zooplankton composition was detected in August comparative with October, mainly seen in explosive development of thermophilic copepod Centropages ponticus in summer and of eurythermic species Paracalanus parvus in early autumn.

The article presents the results of a study of the productive qualities of Holstein cows of the Dutch and German breeding, the presence of a correlative relationship between milk yield, the content and amount of milk fat, live weight, average daily milk yield and milk ratio. It is established the superiority of cows of Dutch breeding for milk yield for 305 days of lactation over cows of German breeding by 458 kg of milk (the third lactation), the difference is not significant. A comparative analysis of the results of studies of the productive qualities of cows of the first lactation of the Holstein breed of the Dutch and German breeding showed that the heifers - the descendants of the first generation exceeded their peer sin milk yield by 855 and 1444 kg of milk respectively, the difference is highly reliable (P<0.001). Low correlation coefficients between milk yield and live weight (positive - German breeding and descendants of the first generation) and (negative - Dutch breeding) indicate the non-linear nature of the relationships between them, and characterizes the uniformity of the herd of Joint-Stock Company „Aydyn” in live weight.

Knowledge of biologically active potential of honey has made significant progress in the last decade, due to the diversification and improvement of the analysis methods regarding the content in various functional compounds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the total polyphenolic content and the antioxidant and antibacterial potential of some honey samples, establishing the correlations between the values of the examined parameters. The investigations were carried out on 7 samples of honey and their botanical origin was determined through melissopalynogical analysis. The samples belonged to the following types of honey: multifloral honey (no=4), lime tree honey (no=2), rapeseed honey (no=1). The total polyphenolic content was determined by Folin-Ciocâlteu method and the antioxidant activity by DPPH radical scavenging method. The antibacterial activity was tested on 3 bacterial strains: Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus and Enterococcus faecalis. The results showed a positive correlation between the investigated parameters. For instance, one sample of multifloral honey recorded the highest total polyphenolic content (274.65±1.85mg GAE/100g honey), correlated with the highest levels of antioxidant (12.30±0.43 mmol Trolox/100 g honey) and strong antibacterial activity.

The pikeperch farming in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) has a relatively short history, and many ideas for production improvement in this species recently emerged. The polyculture is one of these. The aim of this study is to evaluate if sterlet as polyculture species reared in RAS with pikeperch could have a beneficial impact on tank’s bioproductivity and growth dynamic of the juvenile pikeperch. One control (monoculture) (C) and two polyculture variants have been established in duplicate: 1335 pikeperch, 45 days old /m3 with 10% (V1), and 20% (V2) sterlet. The experiment has been carried out during 35 days into a RAS with 6 tanks (1 m3/tank). The fish were fed in all tanks with dry food, 10% of pikeperch biomass in each tank daily, assuring ad libitum feeding. A significant plus of fish biomass resulted by valorisation of the pellets unconsumed by the pikeperch, in both experimental variants (V1, V2). The pikeperch reared for 35 days in polyculture with 20% sterlet (V2) had significantly higher body weight than the pikeperch reared with 10% sterlet (V1) or in monoculture (C).

In the field of cryobiology, there are a large number of publications devoted to the study of the most labile lipid composition of gametes and their membranes. However, less attention is paid to the state of the protein component of cells. Therefore, the purpose of the presented paper was to study the protein spectrum and its changes in the process of cryopreservation of bull and rooster sperm. The presence of albumins, alpha, beta and gamma globulins was determined by the spectrophotometric method. Most of the proteins are contained in the seminal plasma, in gametes the total protein content is slightly lower. Of the seminal plasma proteins, most contain albumins, and of the gamete proteins, most contain gamma globulins (in the sperm of both animal species). With the passage of technological stages, the number of some proteins increases, while of others it decreases. This indicates about the destruction of protein structures, violation of the permeability of biological membranes and changes in the chromatographic mobility of proteins. From the data obtained, it was found that the protein spectrum of bull and rooster sperm is very different. If alpha globulins (18.2±1.84 mg/billion) prevail in the plasma of the bull's sperm, and gamma globulins (16.8±3.27 mg/billion) prevail in the gametes, then in rooster sperm, both in plasma and gametes, most of all is albumin (6.0±2.45 and 11.8±0.47 mg/billion, respectively).

Following the changes in physical factors, the benthic fauna was affected by the decrease in water salinity. The aim of this paper is to identify the trend of changes in the mollusc populations of the most important lagoon system on the Romanian Black Sea coast. After a period of reduced concern for the knowledge of Razim-Sinoe Lagoon System ecological evolution, the studies and researches carried out by GeoEcoMar in 2002-2017 aimed at updating the qualitative and quantitative assessment of the structure of the mollusc populations in the four main lakes, as well as improving the knowledge of the structural and functional changes in these lakes. Currently, the population structure is composed of 14 living species among of the 52 found in the composition of the substrate as recent or subfossil shell debris. By comparing the biological data recorded between 2002 and 2017 with data from the 1970s, it became obvious that a series of euryhaline species and the most sensitive freshwater forms had disappeared. These species were gradually replaced by new freshwater stenobiotic forms, which are more resistant.

The paper proposes the presentation of research on the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of surface waters in the Southern Region of the Republic of Moldova. The main purpose of the research is the study of ponds with aquaculture potential, based on complex analyses of impact factors, natural and anthropogenic. The information was collected from two ponds with significant fishing potential, located in the villages of Pelinei and Libidenco. The basins are located near the national road (30 m and 200 m, respectively) and 16 km from the city of Cahul, a development node for the Southern Region of the Republic of Moldova. Research has shown that the direct impact of the population is smaller compared to that of agricultural technologies, based on the intensive use of chemical fertilizers. This study is part of a complex research on the implementation of an efficient monitoring and control system of surface water quality in the Republic of Moldova, with the main objective of reducing the impact of low anthropogenic factor by at least 10% for each pond of Southern Region.

Aeromonas salmonicida is a bacterial pathogen that causes infection mainly in Salmonidae family. The objective of this ongoing study was to isolate and identify the bacterial pathogen in Lake Ohrid, since the main fish species that populate this aquatic body belongs to the Salmonidae family. Salmo letnica and Salmo ohridanus are the main species where we have focused our analyses. These fish species not only are one of the main catches but also one of the main foods in the region around Lake Ohrid. Sampling was carried out during spring and autumn season in 2017. Material from liver and skin mucus from each sample was used for the inoculation of the TSA medium. The incubation period was between 5-7 days at 180C which was followed biochemical test. PCR was performed by using MIY primer (MIY1 5’-AGCCTCCACGCGCTCACAGC-3’ and MIY2 5’-AAGAGGCCCCATAGTGTGGG-3’). All the data were analyzed with Sigma Plot 12.5. A multiple Comparison Procedures (Tukey Test) between groups, water temperature, liver bacterial colonies and skin colonies (p<0.05) was performed.

Kadayıf is a traditional Turkish dessert that is prepared by pouring wheat flour slurry onto a cycling hot plate from a nozzle followed by baking and adding syrup. Recently, demand for specific properties of flours in the bakery industry has increased. In this study, physical, chemical, technological and rheological properties of Kadayıf flours obtained from both Kadayıf producers and flour factories were investigated and a quality profile of flour for Kadayıf production was propounded. It was determined that 43.32 – 59.05% of Kadayıf flours were under 80 μm indicating that flour with fine particles were desired. Ash, protein, sedimentation value, gluten and gluten index changed between 0.53 – 0.70%, 8.10 – 10.77%, 11.2 – 29.2 mL, 19.0 – 27.7% and 50.7 – 97.6% with average values of 0.57%, 9.36%, 19.7mL, 22.1% and 81.1%, respectively. Damaged starch (3.50 – 4.90%) and water absorbtion % (49.5 – 54.3%) were low. As a result, in Kadayıf production special purpose flour with low protein, low gluten content and gluten index, low sedimentation value and water absorbtion capacity is appreciated. Low protein soft wheats with poor technological properties would be appropriate for this purpose.
